Is Power Iso Safe
So i installed poweriso to make bootable usb stick, and downloaded the installer from official site. Norton said the installer was safe and had the green checkmark notification thingy pop up.
PowerISO is a software program developed by PowerISO Computing. The most common release is 4.7, with over 98% of all installations currently using this version. During setup, the program creates a startup registration point in Windows in order to automatically start when any user boots the PC. PowerISO has tested clean of viruses and malware. We last tested the this file on Mar 1, 2018 with 27 different anti-virus and anti-malware programs and services.
Then i tried to uninstall it via windows 8 control panel's 'uninstall a program option' so using the poweriso's own uninstaller software and then Norton said the file was malicious and the uninstaller exe file was deleted by norton. The file name was au_.exe and the source was www. Poweriso-files.com/ PowerISO6-x64.exe and threat name was Ws.reputation1, it had thousands of users in norton community so i'm definitely not alone with this issue. How I'm supposed to uninstall the program now? And why on earth would you give trusted status to a program which you can't even uninstall because your own antivirus deletes the uninstaller. That doesn't really make sense to me, so that leads me to the assumption that this might have been another false positive? Should I be worried?
[Edit: Removed hyperlink to a direct download to conform with the and ]. Have you verified PowerISO is in fact uninstalled.
Look in your Program Files >find PowerISO >look for native uninstall app. Is PowerISO still with your list of Programs. Go into Quarantine for this event. Click more details click >copy to clipboard >paste to notepad. Compare the hash at or Restore from Quarantine and upload file to and for second opinion scan.
You may submit false positive report to Norton and you may contact vendor about the Norton flag. You'll have to take note as to where Norton places the file upon Restore from Quarantine. You may Exclude if file is safe to your satisfaction.
If you install again take note if PowerISO has an uninstall from program context menu.and or from Program Files. Sorry, as I cannot see your machine.so, above info is a best guess. Please don't post direct link to executable in the Community. I clicked the link above and Norton blocked the site with a warning 'Malicious Web Site Blocked'. Then I went to the main PowerISO website and went to the download page.
I clicked the link for 64bit download (I was using IE). When the IE download box came up to choose a location and to save the file I did not choose to save it, I clicked 'cancel'. The file attempted a 'drive by download', it started downloading without my consent. Norton then analyzed the file and blocked it, either deleting it or sent it to quarantine. I certainly consider it Malicious behavior. I'm requesting your link be removed. 'Go into Quarantine for this event.
Click more details click >copy to clipboard paste to notepad.' There are no SHA or MD5 file thumbprint with au_.exe when I look at it in Notepad, stating 'Not available'. PowerISO does not uninstall. It still shows in Program and Features, where I try to uninstall the program, and its still under my Start/Programs menu. Whenever I either try to start an Uninstall from either location Norton quickly pops up stating that 'au_. Daemon Tools Lite here. exe is unsafe.' And quarantines the file.
I have to assume it's getting the file from somewhere because I can select 'uninstall' over and over and the same file is removed time and time again. Any ideas appreciated.
